What will you do to ignite your worship life in 2015? What will be new about your worship in the New Year?
I’m asking because, just as true worship doesn’t just happen, neither does growth in the greater depths of worship.
It’s not a by-product of showing up at church on Sundays or even singing all of the songs that they flash up on the screen. It’s not something that you just come by passively at all. But it’s something you pursue passionately – just as you pursue Him passionately.
It’s something that will naturally pour out of your being as you seek Him first . . . love Him first . . . choose to bow before Him first.
And since our worship is offered to the unsearchable, unfathomable God, we can never out-seek, out-love, or out-worship Him. There will always be greater depths. And exceedingly more wonders.
I’m asking these questions because,
God is never satisfied with stagnant. He loves new.
Look at this evidence:
“Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it?
I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, Rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19 NASB).
“The LORD’S lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23 NASB).
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you;
I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 36:26 NIV).
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away;
behold, new things have come” (2 Corinthians 5:17 NASB).
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self,
which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new
in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self,
created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV).
And even when it comes to worship: “He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD” (Psalm 40:3).
So what will you do that’s new in 2015 to ignite the worship you offer to your great God?
Commit to spend more time in the Bible and in prayer to grow in your knowledge and intimacy with Him? Dig in the Word to learn more about God’s plan for us as His worshipers? (I know a great book to guide you!) Work on worshiping in the tough times? Learn to fight the distractions that prevent stillness and worship intimacy? Or maybe determine to spend more time worshiping throughout the week. There are lots of steps you can take to dive into the greater depths of worshiping your God!
A couple of steps I’ve personally decided to take are 1) to memorize more Biblical passages that are actual words of worship, and 2) to memorize more of the names/titles of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit so they’re on the tip of my tongue in my personal times of worship and prayer. Simple, but powerful, steps.
So my challenge: Let’s offer God something new in 2015! Ask God how He’d like to see you grow regarding your worship life. And why not get a friend or your small group to commit to take steps together to pursue Biblical worship? And then just wait and see what new work God will do in your life in response to your humble, obedient act of responding to His glory.
“Engage in this incomparable journey with all your might. The humble privilege is beyond comprehension – the intimate reward exceeds description. It’s the deepest hunger of your soul. And it’s a taste of glorious eternity here on earth. Let the passionate pursuit begin!”
